A Standards Based Classroom?

Standards Based Classroom?

As educators, we've seen a lot of ideas, strategies and mandates come and go.  Some of these things more useful than others when implemented in the classroom.

James Hearn from the University of Georgia, injunction with the National Post secondary Educational Cooperative concluded, " Classrooms and teaching faculty provide the most direct organizational influences on post secondary student success, with governmental and institutional policies playing notable indirect roles."  (http://nces.ed.gov/npec/pdf/synth_Hearn.pdf).

What a teacher does and how they do it matters.  Good teaching is good teaching.  But, can a Standards Based Classroom help us teach better?  What is a standards based classroom?  Here are some visual examples.  And he's an article (albeit dated) from ASCD.
Also, here are today's PD documents.

We have been charged with implementing a standards based classroom.  The district has asked us to reflect on the questions they've posed on this subject.  In our PLC's today, reflect on the following questions.  Please respond to them individually, thoroughly and thoughtfully.  Here are expectations for blogging.  Also, please reply to two or more posts from others.

Also please put who you are in the post - this can be done by:

1.  Your district google account (email Paul Del Priore if you need help resetting your password).
2.  Logging into you own google account. (You can create an account here - I suggest you do) Or,
3.  Put your name or PLC name right in the post in the comment at the end of your post. (SELECT ANONYMOUS WHERE IT ASKS FOR WHICH ACCOUNT YOU WANT TO USE)

District Questions:

What can I do differently tomorrow to make my classroom a more standards-based classroom?
Next week?

Fourth marking period?

Next school year?
